Is Online Poker Illegal?

Online poker has become with ages one of the most famous online games all over the world. Online card rooms are even more popular then the brick ones. Due to its legality, you can find online rooms from the Caribbean Sea to the United Kingdom. In 2008 there are already forty card rooms and online poker networks; that traffic is detectably very busy. These became as popular as nowadays there are more than 600 rooms in the network of poker.

Towards legal questions, poker online differs from online casino gambling in some ways. Till 2005, online poker had not been legalized, so North Dakota House of Representatives decided to regulate this game and card rooms operators. The law demanded that online poker operators would locate physically their operation. The legislation was blocked by the State Senate after the U.S. Department of Justice sent a letter to attorney general with the message that the pending legislation violets the federal Wire Act. After these, the majority of online poker sites close down the advertising spots of “dot com” sites, in their stead created “dot-net” advertisements. They advertise poker schools and learning methods.

Finally, on October 13, 2006, President Bush underwrote a law in Safe Port Act, according to it is prohibited for online gambling sites to transact with American financial institutions. Due to this order many poker sites, as PartyPoker.com, PacificPoker closed down their financial operations. There is an organization which aim is to protect the poker player’s right to play online. This Poker Players Alliance has 1,000,000 members.

But how they can alive the crisis and the situations when players win? Online poker rooms ultimately have four methods to generate their revenues. First of the methods is the rake, which is collected from ring game pots. The rake means the percentage of the pot, and every poker room has its own rake structure. The second method is the sit-and-go tournament; the entry fee is added to the cost of the tournament. This is a five and ten percent of the tournament fee. The third method consists in providing black jack or side bets on poker, where the player bets against “the house”. The odds bring the profit for the house. The online poker institutions invest the players’ money; this is the best method, being a relevant source of income.

Poker is and will be the beloved game by all professional or amateur players. As you have read online gambling or poker is legal, regulated by the law.
